How to Deal With the Poor Seal of Electric Butterfly Valves?

Dec 25, 2020
Electric butterfly valves are widely used in dusty cold air or hot air gas pipelines of ventilation and environmental protection projects in metallurgy, chemical industry, building materials, power stations and glass. An electric butterfly valve as a device controlling the gas medium plays a vital role in the pipeline. Its good sealing is also very important. How to deal with the poor sealing of electric butterfly valves?

There are three following reasons for leakages of the electric butterfly valve often used for opening and closing of non-corrosive water at room temperature:
1. The butterfly valve plate is corroded because of the ball iron plate. The valve plate will rust and leakage will occur over time.
2. The rubber valve seat is damaged. After opening and closing for a long time, the rubber is not resistant to abrasion, resulting in damage to the seal.
3. The electric actuator is not debugged well on-site, resulting in leakages.

Electric hard sealing butterfly valves
The electric hard sealing butterfly valve is made from carbon steel with metal hard sealing. This kind of butterfly valve is used in relatively harsh working conditions, generally high temperature steam, heat transfer oil, etc. The main reason for its leakage is the leakage of the sealing surface, and the reasons are as the following:
1. The sealing surface is damaged by high temperature steam.
2. The sealing surface is flushed by the slender hard particles for a long time.
3. The butterfly valve plate has gas holes.

In many cases, the seal of the electric butterfly valve is damaged, which makes the electric butterfly valve have a bad seal when it is in use. This is generally caused by the long-term impact and corrosion of the liquid on the sealing surface. At a certain speed, the small particles contained in the liquid will impact the sealing surface for a long time, which will cause partial performance to be impaired, making the overall seal not tight and causing leakages.

The manufacturing material and processing quality of the sealing surface are the reasons for this kind of situation in the application. The quality of the sealing surface is mainly reflected in whether there are cracks, pores and inclusions on the surface. In addition, human mistakes, unreasonable equipment and careless maintenance are also important reasons for the sealing problems of electric butterfly valves. Such conditions can be avoided through reasonable management.
