A globe valve is a common type of valve that can be classified into three main types based on the structure of its body: Oblique pattern, angle pattern, and Plunger pattern.
The Oblique globe valve is the most common form, featuring a straight-through flow path in its body. When fluid passes through this type of valve, it needs to change direction twice, resulting in relatively higher fluid resistance. It is suitable for controlling fluids in normal operating conditions.
The angle globe valve has an angle between the valve stem and the channel, and the seating surface of the valve seat has a certain angle with the inlet and outlet channels. The body of this valve can be integral or split. The seat and disc sealing surfaces can be hardfaced with alloy, enhancing the valve's resistance to erosion and corrosion. This design aligns well with the control of pipelines in aluminum oxide production processes and is also suitable for pipelines containing coke deposits and solid particles.
The Plunger globe valve's main advantage is its ability to be installed at the corners of piping systems, saving both space and facilitating operation. As a result, these valves are particularly suitable for use in ammonia synthesis and refrigeration systems in fertilizer plants. For smaller diameters and higher pressures, the body of the Y-pattern valve is often forged.
A globe valve is composed of various components, including the body, bonnet, stem, stem nut, disc, seat, packing box, sealing packing, packing gland, and actuator. Valve bodies and bonnets can be cast or forged, with casting being suitable for larger diameter valves and forging being preferred for smaller diameter, high-temperature, and high-pressure valves.
In conclusion, there are three main types of globe valve bodies: Oblique pattern, angle pattern, and Plunger pattern. Each type has its own applications, advantages, and disadvantages. In practical fluid control, the selection of the appropriate valve body type depends on specific conditions to achieve stable and efficient fluid control.
